🇬🇧 Artwork: Anastasia

Today, there is a new work of art added to the list of available works. This text is to talk about it.

I am Nycka Nunes, a visual artist, and in this blog I talk about my work, my lifestyle and what inspires me.

The new work is called “Anastasia”. It is the image of a black woman created from pieces of photographs of textures, with an emphasis on fabric textures, like a 2D rag doll.

In this work, I return to the style that inspired me to start creating art, using collage of pieces of photography to build images, and using 2D digital painting to complement the work of art.

The initial inspiration came from the cook at Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo in the works of Monteiro Lobato, an important Brazilian writer, and that also gave me the inspiration for the name of the work.

Next, I used references from my childhood drawings to create the face, highlighting the shape of the head and the eyes. When I was a child, I created a character called Marcela who had similar features. Years later, I discovered the character Betty Boop, and I noticed that Marcela was a child version of Betty Boop. I don't remember having contact with Betty Boop as a child.

The work talks about our inner universe, about the open mind that can be cut and sewn according to the future we want for ourselves, and for this reason it is based on emotional references from my childhood. The only part that is not a texture is the irises of the character's eyes, which are images of a night sky and a full moon. This part represents the character's dreams and goals, the starting point for every desired transformation.

The character's skin is leather. The dress is printed silk. The hairband is printed jersey. The sclera of the eyes is knitted. The mouth is made of twill lined with acrylic fabric and contrasting stitching.

The hair is made of steel wool, an allusion to how some people refer to the hair of black people in Brazil. The work is full of emotional references. The “bombril” hair reminds me of the hair of my paternal grandmother’s cook, certainly one of the best cooks I have ever met and an excellent human being. The kitchen as a reference is also a reference to love, as cooking well is an act of love.

The background is almost entirely leather, with small wooden details. The wood represents the more rigid parts that the mentality of people seeking personal development can have. All the other fabrics represent the flexibility of creative minds that are always open to growth.

All the photographs used in the work were taken by me.

I could create art with perfect and symmetrical lines, but human beings are neither perfect nor symmetrical and I do not want to create art that looks like art made by artificial intelligence. I really want to make art that looks like “I made it”.

See the “Art available here” page to buy yours and the link to the image of the work. This work has a limited production of 25 units.

🇬🇧 How to contribute to the realization of artistic projects

How can you contribute to the viability of my artistic projects?

I am Nycka Nunes, a visual artist and photographer. Photographic equipment costs a lot of money, and the projects I most want to do involve photography. In addition, traveling also costs some money (sometimes much less than photographic equipment, but it does cost money), and in my work, traveling allows me to have a richer and more varied image bank of textures to use in my works of art. I do not have my own studio; to photograph people I need to rent spaces, and both renting and purchasing a studio cost money. Purchasing a studio is one of my current goals. And here I am just talking about some costs that prevent me from having ideal working conditions today. Therefore, contributions from followers, collectors, and other people who appreciate original and creative art are extremely important for me to produce the best work that my potential allows. In this text I will explain how a person or a company can contribute to the realization of my artistic projects, and these other costs that I have in my work, including contributing to the acquisition of my studio. The simplest way is through donations. You contact me to let me know that you want to contribute and provide your details for the purpose of declaring your donation, and I will give you the bank details to make the donation directly into my account.

For some projects, I offer donors who contribute a minimum amount some benefits, such as discounts on the purchase of works of art.

Another way to contribute, valid for companies of any size, is through sponsorship. For more information about the sponsorship options I offer, read the “Maecenasship” page on this blog. Companies interested in returns other than sponsorship can send me their proposals or schedule a business meeting on the “Services” page of this blog.

Even though the conditions are not ideal, I continue to work and you can purchase works of art that I have already created, when they are available. Purchasing the works of art that I have already created is also a way of contributing to my creation of others. See the available works on the “Buy art here” page. All of them are limited editions.

If you like art, you support artistic work. Even if you think that what you can offer is not enough, for donations, any amount is valid. For sponsorships, it will depend on the expected return. I have more than seventeen thousand unique followers and a considerable reach, and I know the value of this for sponsorships that involve brand visibility on my social media profiles and blog. I know that because I have few followers on some social networks, the percentage of engagement is higher and this means that, since the followers are distributed across several channels, the overall engagement is higher than that of someone who has 17 thousand followers on a single social network. For other sponsorship formats, I also have my metrics. And respecting this is essential.

🇬🇧 You can be a (more) beautiful person without (more) cosmetic procedures

You can be a (more) beautiful person without (more) cosmetic procedures. You are probably a beautiful person, but you just don't know how to value your beauty because you are wasting too much time comparing yourself to people who are different from you, as if someone else's beauty makes yours worthless.

I am Nycka Nunes, a visual artist with a focus on photography. I have worked in the fashion industry for over forty years and I have some experience that can help you discover your beauty instead of looking for something to change your appearance. If you are up for the challenge, read this text until the end.

I could talk about my personal experience as a teenager who thought she was ugly and became an adult who is very confident in her own appearance, and the results of my work as a stylist, but I will take another path to make you reflect on your appearance.

It is important that you write down your answers, to generate the desired reflection. You don't have to show them to anyone if you don't want to, but write them down!

Answer each question without reading the following ones. And do not erase or change the answers before finishing the exercise. It's a matter of being honest with yourself to identify the root of the problem.

Start by listing the physical features you don't like, that make you feel insecure.

After that, list the physical features you like about yourself, that you think are beautiful.

Now, for each feature you like about yourself, list 5 celebrities who have that feature naturally. For each feature that can be changed, list 5 other celebrities who have made some change to look like you (that is, to have that feature that you have naturally). For example, I have naturally full lips and nowadays many celebrities, especially women, have lip fillers to try to have that feature.

Now, for each feature you don't like about yourself, list 5 celebrities who have that feature, looking for examples of beautiful celebrities. There are several who have big noses or thin lips, for example, and they are beautiful.

Now, reflect on the features you don't like about yourself. Has anyone criticised you in the past for having this feature? Where did this rejection of this feature come from?

It's a good idea to consider treating characteristics that are related to physical and mental health. Treating characteristics such as acne and obesity, for example, can do you good.

The next step is to learn to value your beauty. Schedule a photo shoot with me to see yourself in a different light. Follow the instructions on the services page.

🇬🇧 Interview with Nycka Nunes - Part 2

When you are scouting a location and looking for a place that will host the scene, what determines that you have found the right place?

I always have in mind what I want to convey. And anything I want to convey can be conveyed in many ways. When developing photography projects, I already create them with an eye on what kind of place suits my intentions. When doing commissioned projects, I also have a concept in mind and a sense of what kind of place would be interesting to develop the concept. I have been creating visually (mentally visualising the desired result) since childhood, so it comes naturally to me.

How do you deal with moments of transition and turn them into something positive to allow yourself to move forward?

I went through many ups and downs during the period when I was healing from a series of traumatic situations, which was my career transition period between leaving the fashion industry and becoming a professional artist, without much room for other options. I chose to share the experience of these changes in the form of art and content creation. Art is my way of talking about things that I know many people will not understand through words. I am resuming the project "Nycka, the Nomad", one of my previous blogs, to talk, on my current blog, about my lifestyle, sharing the trips I take to photograph, with some content about my personal style, and other inspiring topics, in addition to talking about the works of art that I create. The blog becomes a channel for verbalising things that are relevant to me and parts of my routine that can show those who are interested in my artistic work who the artist is. My art expresses the unspeakable and the content aims to show a little of who I am.

Where do you find inspiration to create your art?

Inspiration usually starts from within. In some cases it comes from seeing a charming place, or wanting to transform an excerpt from a book into an image, or seeing a piece of clothing with a super creative design and wanting to create an image that includes it... but I have avoided the path of creating images just for the aesthetic appeal. The visual arts projects I am developing usually start from a theme that I want to approach in a subtle way, open to interpretation, and I work to create images that represent the issues I want to address within that theme, without being literal. Although photography is generally used to capture what exists, my intention is to create images with purpose, avoiding clichés. I want to use photography as an element of artistic production in a different way than what we normally see, which is why I always prefer to use the expression works of art rather than photographs. The projects that are currently in the fundraising phase, both the project "The Many Nuances of Love" and the project "Inner Balance", have this characteristic. Both are very different from each other in the process of producing the images, but both have characteristics that I want to bring to all my works that use photography as the main tool. Anyone who wants to know more can check my blog to find out how to contribute financially to the realisation of these projects and offer their contribution.

If you could describe your photography, whether its style or general theme, what would it be?

In a few words, I would say that my photography reveals the beauty of my inner universe. And I am talking about professional photography. I hate taking pictures with my cell phone and most of the images I take for social media are taken using a cell phone camera. I even thought about changing that, but with the growth of artificial intelligence in social media, I prefer to stick to my decision.

🇬🇧 Artistic project: Inner balance

Project name: Inner balance

Artist: Nycka Nunes (Vanessa Nunes)

Project description:

This is a series of images about inner balance, self-knowledge and personal development. It uses photography as the main tool and digital art (painting and drawing) as a complement to share a little of my vision and experience on how to find inner balance, overcome internal issues and limitations and have a life richer in positive experiences. A series of beautiful and inspiring images for those who want to relax and reconnect with the best of themselves. No motivational phrases or other cliché references are included in this project. The interpretation is up to each person who sees the images.

The promotion includes videos about trips that will be made to capture images of beautiful landscapes of the exuberant Brazilian nature. The photos taken at the chosen destinations will be the starting point of the project, which will have other elements to represent the proposed themes. The videos, especially the video of the finished project, will also be shared on my profiles on other social networks, in teasers on Instagram and TikTok, and may also be shared through public relations and advertising campaigns on channels of interest to my target audience.

Objective: To convey, through images, ineffable experiences of reconnecting with oneself.

Sponsorship:

  1. Gold sponsorship: Inclusion of the sponsoring brand in 7 videos about the trips, a video with the finished project and a post or video promoting the physical exhibition of the project (after the launch), all on YouTube. The brand appears in the opening credits of the videos. Investment: R$315,000 for companies with offices in Brazil paying in Brazilian currency or 68,000 US dollars for foreign companies (3 spots available on September 1, 2024).
  2. Silver sponsorship: Inclusion of the sponsoring brand in 7 posts about the trips and a post with the finished project on YouTube. The brand appears in the closing credits of the videos. Investment: R$224,000 for companies with offices in Brazil paying in Brazilian currency or 48,000 US dollars for foreign companies (12 spots available on September 1, 2024).
  3. Bronze sponsorship: Insertion of the sponsoring brand at the end of the finished project video, after the silver sponsorship brands. Investment: 45,000 reais for companies with offices in Brazil paying in Brazilian currency or 10,000 US dollars for foreign companies. (15 spots available on September 1, 2024).

All insertions are permanent.

The order of appearance is according to the order in which the full amount of the desired sponsorship is paid.

All bronze sponsorships can migrate to silver sponsorship within the fundraising period by paying the difference in value. If the end of the fundraising period is brought forward, the brands that have already paid for the bronze sponsorship will be notified and will have ten business days to migrate to silver sponsorship if they wish or they will be maintained as bronze sponsors.

Silver and Gold sponsors may ship products for use on the trip. Subject to my approval. Shipping costs, import taxes, and related costs are the responsibility of the sponsor. Products will not be returned.

Pre-sale:

Individuals, maecenas and collectors interested in contributing can participate in the exclusive pre-sale of the project's images, contributing twelve thousand reais (if payment is made through Brazilian banks) or three thousand dollars for foreign clients for each image (approximate size of 29 x 42cm). Shipping costs will be charged separately after the project is ready. Taxes and fees for shipping to other countries are the responsibility of the buyer. The pre-sale offers 200 images in total, and each final image will have a maximum of ten copies available. The order of priority in choosing the images is the order in which pre-sale payments are finalised. Whoever pays first chooses first.

Fundraising period: until December 20, 2024, and may be brought forward if all sponsorships are closed beforehand.

Execution: from January 6, 2025, and may be brought forward.

Launch (final images ready for sale - last video): scheduled for the first week of April 2025, but may be brought forward if the project is implemented early.

I currently have over sixteen thousand unique followers on social media and an engagement rate of over ten percent during periods of consistent generation of relevant content.

🇬🇧 Interview with Nycka Nunes - Part 1

Where did you grow up? Did that influence how you became the artist you are nowadays?

I was born in Montes Claros - MG (Brazil), a city with about three hundred thousand inhabitants at the time, and with a small-town feel, because wherever I went in the city there were always people who knew my family. I lived there until I was 22, when I moved to Uberlândia.

I have always liked art and my experiences in my hometown certainly have an impact on my work.

My father was a farmer, and on the farm I felt free, I could be myself. I have very fond memories of how I felt in contact with nature, which was a huge contrast to how I felt in the city, living with my maternal family who never showed me any love, never complimented me, never gave me emotional support in difficult situations. What attracts me to big cities is art. Other than that, I prefer contact with nature.

When I started planning this new career I visualised myself photographing nude or semi-nude people in contact with nature. Then these images began to develop in my head, becoming more complex, and when I realised this complexity, I lost my fear of dedicating myself fully to art. When I realised that my desire to leave fashion behind was a desire to leave behind all the suffering of my childhood and adolescence and to eliminate abusive relationships from my life, there was no turning back. Now I am happy working on some projects and looking for sponsors to carry them out. During the period of career transition, I made some decisions that impact the way I work, aiming to create, in this new career, a better, healthier, more prosperous and sustainable reality than the reality I created working as a stylist.

When did you start taking pictures?

I was already over 18 years old when I got my first camera. I don't remember exactly when it was, but it was an analog compact camera that I used to do academic photography work during my advertising course. My professor praised my academic work a lot, my perspective on the subjects I photographed. Before university, I used it very little. Analog photography doesn't appeal to me because we don't see the results immediately and mistakes can happen that can ruin even great photos. Then I had another one, a compact digital camera, when I was about 32 years old, which stopped working properly after falling on the street during a travel writing course I was taking. In 2011, I bought my first DSLR camera, and my first photos with it were at the two biggest fashion weeks in Brazil at the time. I received the camera a few hours before a fashion show. Now I alternate between this camera and mirrorless cameras in my current projects, depending on the result I'm looking for.

Where do you think your photographic style came from?

My style is made up of countless references, the biggest one being my personal development. I like to look inside, see what I've learned about myself and the world, and show that in the form of images to people.

The awareness that some people will never love me, no matter what I do, allows me to take more risks; to explore possibilities, materials, places, textures, angles; to use something different to create the right lighting for a photo shoot; using different materials to dress the models (or clients)... Being authentic allows me to have the support of those who are also authentic and who have healthy self-esteem.

Self-knowledge also allows me to understand that the beauty of art lies in being interpreted in different ways by people according to their level of self-knowledge and their repertoire. I have a narrative in my head when I develop a photography project or a work of art, and I am aware that many people will not interpret the images the way I imagined them. This double meaning is present in several of my works. Sometimes the same work can be interpreted in multiple different ways and what the person interprets tells me a lot about him/her. I think that is beautiful!

You said that you like the viewer to have their own interpretation of your work. Why do you think that is more important than anchoring a different message or context in the photograph?

I don't think it is more important. It is about my way of seeing things. Imposing my worldview on my audience is not always the best thing to do. There are works where I explain the story and meaning, guiding people to understand the work as I imagined it. Other works, usually more complex, I leave open to interpretation, or I only give a superficial clue about the subject. I usually do this with personal development issues, because the clues are enough to guide those who are on the path to self-knowledge, and more direct explanations would not be understandable to those who are not seeking self-knowledge. In some cases, I explain complex works based on my personal experiences.

I want to express my vision. The interpretation that each person gives of my art depends on several factors that are not under my control.

I do not hide, I have many opinions and values that are different from many people and I am authentic. I do not impose my opinions and values as absolute truths and I do not accept that other people try to impose their values and beliefs in my life. If someone serves me a dish that I do not like, I try to eat what I like in that dish and leave the rest aside. People can choose to enjoy the beauty of my work without thinking about what I want to convey beyond the beauty of each image.

The project aims to create a series of artistic photographs linked to reflections on love. Without clichés, without images of couples or other common references. The deadline for its execution is from November 2024 to March 2025.

The main objective of this project is to create a series of artistic photographs created from reflections on love.

Resumé: Nycka Nunes (Vanessa Nunes)

Profile:

I am a visual artist, with a degree in advertising. I work with photography, painting on canvas, drawing, digital painting and digital drawing.

My interest in art began since childhood, but my family did not encourage it. It has been reinforced through my work as a stylist, emphasising personal image as a non-verbal communication tool. Art is also a tool of non-verbal communication. From that moment on, it was inevitable that I would pay more attention to art. I left my hometown looking mainly to expand my cultural and artistic repertoire. I've lived in four different cities so far.

Portuguese is my mother tongue. I also speak fluent English and Italian and basic Spanish.

Professional goals:

I want to improve myself as an artist and create more art using photography as my main tool, experimenting with how to use photography in ways that move away from realism and are more symbolic than literal.

No one ever complained about looking bad in the photos I took and most people were happy to see me at events and asked me to photograph them.

About my artistic work:

At the link below there are 5 small images of my work, which show a little of my evolution as an artist.

https://www.nyckanunes.art/2024/05/as-muitas-nuances-do-amor-projeto.html

The first, titled “Coffee eye”, was my first work. I mixed digital drawing and photography. I finished it in February 2021. The next one, “Orchestra 1”, also mixes digital art and photography. It was completed in February 2023. None of them had a concept behind them. They were exercises in creativity. In the upper right corner is “People,” a work on diversity completed in June 2023, about people who know themselves deeply while others have less self-knowledge. Then, at the bottom left, is “The city,” which is about diversity in a broader perspective, including life in society, completed a few days later. The last image is “The light within”, which speaks of inner wisdom. Completed in November 2023. “The Many Shades of Love” wants to have a purpose like the last 3 images, and have photography as a main source like I have never done before (photographing events is very different from what I have in mind).

To see other work and photographs taken by me, check out Highlights on my Instagram profile /NyckaNunes (Link available in the sidebar of this blog).

🇬🇧 This artist’s forms of expression

Life is curious. I decided to study advertising because my ability to write good advertising scripts was recognised by a professional photographer from Rio, with whom I took a modeling course when I was 16 (and I didn't even want to be a model). And during college I realised I had several other talents, which were recognised by the teachers.

After that, I experimented, learned, and made these talents available to clients.

I have a certain attachment to this entire journey, because I'm proud of what I've built. Proud of who I have become. Proud of my repertoire and my personality.

Although the options remain open, my focus is art and the more I focus on art, the less I have to say here on the blog. Maybe I maintain other services just to have something to talk about here from time to time. I don't like talking about art. It's like explaining a joke. I create art with an idea, critique or reflection in mind. I prefer to leave the interpretation to each client. Sometimes I try to think of ways to balance this, but I'm respecting my pace.

I recommend that you follow my profiles on social media, mainly Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube, as I post about my artistic work on these three channels.

🇬🇧 Art enriching the home: entrance hall and living room

The living room and entrance hall are very important spaces in the house. These are places where the decoration must demonstrate the personality of those who live there and what is important to the residents. Photos taken by a professional and works of art are the best ways to demonstrate all this with good taste and avoiding common options, which impoverish the home.

Photographic essays that contribute to the correct transmission of these messages are one of my services, in addition to the works of art I create and artistic projects for residential decoration, creating images that enrich the home. Visit the services page to find out how to access these services. I send works of art all over the world. Photo shoots can be carried out in several countries.

The artistic projects for decorating your home and photo shoots are created according to my artistic interpretation of the information you provide me to create them. I only work with original works, created by me.

🇬🇧 Three mistakes you should avoid when choosing a photographer for an artistic photo shoot

This is a text about three mistakes you should avoid when choosing a photographer for an artistic photo shoot or to purchase custom fine art photography.

    • Create unrealistic expectations. For example, a fat person wants a boudoir photoshoot where, as a result, they have the body of Heidi Klum or Cristiano Ronaldo. Technically it's possible, but if you don't accept your own appearance and don't want to create a sensual photoshoot recording your real body, what's the point of doing a photoshoot whose result you would know is fake? You can lose weight until you measure up to Heidi Klum or CR7 and your body will still be different from theirs.
    • Look for the lowest price. Beginners and insecure professionals photograph people on the street for free. Experienced professionals capable of managing their own business know that their costs are high and price them taking into account their costs, their personal and professional repertoire and their ability to deliver results.
    • Want a portfolio. Although some people recommend asking for a portfolio when hiring photographers, this has some downsides in the case of artistic photography. One artistic work is never the same as another and a portfolio can generate unrealistic expectations from the client. For example, you see the photographer's previous work and hope to do a similar photoshoot. A real artist doesn't do similar work, just as (s)he will only make a person look like another in specific situations, such as a photo shoot for an artist paying homage to another, or a fashion editorial paying homage to someone. And a person looking for a truly artistic work wants precisely the artist's originality in creating something that is out of the ordinary for that new photo shoot. The photographer's personal and professional repertoire is worth more than his previous experiences as a photographer.

I am Nycka Nunes, a visual artist and photographer with extensive experience in the fashion industry, where I worked seeking to avoid repressing my natural creativity in a domestic environment where creativity was treated as a defect. At a certain point in my life, after overcoming my insecurities and traumas, art spoke louder and I chose to work with visual arts and photography, subjects that I studied at university with great feedback from teachers.

My services are available to clients all over the world. To find out more about me and my work, follow my profiles on social media and/or contact me directly via email or messages on Instagram.

🇬🇧 Children's room and toy room - Art contributing to the quality of life of little ones

A child's room and their playroom are spaces for them to be themselves, to learn to deal with who they are and to have privacy to unleash their imagination while playing. And they are also spaces that offer opportunities for parents to give their children tools to develop important skills for their future, especially in today's world, with professional trends changing rapidly due to technological advances.

Hi, I'm Nycka Nunes, visual artist and photographer and in this blog I share information about my work and reflections related to it with potential and real clients from all over the world. One of my services is the development of artistic projects for residential decoration. I create works of art to decorate your home, creating more welcoming, comforting and/or stimulating environments in the right way, always seeking aesthetic harmony. The project can be done for isolated areas instead of a larger project covering the entire house. Here we are going to talk about children's rooms and toy rooms.

Currently, children are already accustomed to computers and cell phones from an early age and this has caused damage to their development, such as issues of focus/attention, motor coordination, and creativity, among others.

How can we encourage a child's creativity when cinema creates films for the main literary works aimed at little ones? This and other questions crossed my mind when planning what my role would be as an artist and how my art could help people deal with real problems. And through the projects I develop, I can contribute to the development of skills that children have failed to develop in the last two decades, contribute to improving the quality of life of little ones and also various other issues for people of all ages.

As I am a creative person, the possibilities when seeking personalised solutions for each client through art are many. Children's rooms can have works of art that encourage sleep, self-confidence and other characteristics without generating excess stimulation, which can interfere with bedtime. The toy room can be more visually stimulating and work on a greater variety of abilities and skills through decoration.

To discuss options for your children's rooms, request an online meeting with me by following the instructions on the services page.

🇬🇧 Decoration of luxury and high-end hotels

Luxury and high-end hotels and resorts should never have merely functional decoration, as I have seen in some. The merely functional decoration is poor, cold, an invitation for the guest to leave as quickly as possible.

What do I call functional decor? The one where everything has a function. An example: a bedroom with TV, bed, nightstands, wardrobe and curtain. None of this is purely decorative, none of it exists for the simple pleasure of looking at. None of this demonstrates interest in keeping the guest comfortable in the hotel for as long as possible and wanting to return.

Perhaps hotels that use functional ambience aim to cater to the nouveau riche who do not value art. Even the newly rich are currently interested in art, so it is an ineffective strategy.

I'm Nycka Nunes, I'm a photographer and visual artist, and my professional career has been marked mainly by serving high-income clients. Due to my ability to develop personalised solutions for this client profile, the artistic photography projects developed for hotel decoration, with an emphasis on luxury and high-end hotels, take into account the location of the hotel and other characteristics of the decoration, as well as others information provided by the client, and seek aesthetically harmonious and artistic results, avoiding cliché images. In cases of hotels under development, it is interesting - but not mandatory - that I dialogue with whoever is planning the decoration to create harmony between the works of art I create and what the decoration team has in mind. Each type of decor has a different way for artwork and artistic photography to demonstrate concern for guests' well-being.

A project is, primarily, the creation of images (mostly artistic photographs) for all environments of a hotel unit. I also accept commissions for artwork and artistic photographs if the client only wants one image. With the projects, the intention is to create harmony and coherence, signing the works of art in all spaces and creating exclusive environments through art.

If you manage a hotel or chain of hotels, consider including a photography project of mine in your next opportunity to decorate or redecorate hotel units. I serve clients from almost all over the world for such projects. Exceptions are outlined on the services page, which is also where you can schedule an online meeting with me.

The invitation is also valid for those who have accommodation units for rent, other company profiles and also for residential properties.

🇬🇧 What to wear to a photo shoot

What to wear to a photo shoot?

This is a very common question and in this text I will talk a little about it.

Professional photography is a different universe from that of those who are used to taking photos with their cell phones. And when behind the camera is a professional who has worked in the fashion world her entire life, the experience can be heaven or hell, with no in between.

Personal image is a non-verbal communication tool and what you wear says a lot about how you see yourself (when you choose without qualified professional guidance). As a photo essay is a permanent record, it is worth trying to express your best version; Show, in photos, a person you are proud to be or the person you want to become, to have the images as motivation for change.

Certain materials and textures look ugly in photos and give the person using them a vulgar appearance.

Before I talk about them and make you panic if you have a lot of clothes with these materials, I warn you that I offer the stylist service for photo shoots that I am going to photograph. The service is optional, and, for those who choose to hire it, I can help you choose the best clothes and lingerie from those you already have. I can also research and buy new clothing aiming for excellent results for the shoot (purchase costs are charged separately). And I can create and produce custom-made clothes and accessories for shoots whose theme makes this option more interesting. In the case of creation, there is a minimum number of styling days to be hired depending on the complexity of the work. This minimum already covers production costs in most cases. In the rare cases that it does not cover (let's say the customer wants a dress full of gold fringes, for example), the difference will be charged separately.

The stylist service depends on schedule availability, so the work of creating and making clothes is more difficult to fit into the schedule because it takes a lot of time. I only use it when I know that I won't find anything in the market that creates the context that the customer is looking for. I recommend hiring the stylist service only after the initial meeting, as I will inform you how many days are needed in your case.

That said, for boudoir shoots, for women, I recommend avoiding lingerie with nylon lace and some fabrics. The fit and size of the pieces is also important to observe. Bras, in the back, should be more or less at the same height as the front. And they must accommodate the breasts well.

For men, I recommend avoiding underwear with a brand name on the waistband (or anywhere). Size is also important.

As for other garments, fabrics made from natural threads are better than those with a high percentage of synthetic threads. Perhaps the biggest exception to this is linen. It wrinkles very easily and this makes it contraindicated for photo shoots. You'll look like a beggar by the third click if you insist on using it.

For brides and clients interested in portraits, it is risky to use pure white on a dress, shirt or anything close to the face. Your smile may appear yellow.

Good quality clothes, in the correct size, with long sleeves and pants in the exact length, good finishing and a design that flatters the wearer make a big difference in a person's appearance in photo shoots. Knowing how to use these resources will give you the best results. Which means, with me, you just don't get the best results if you don't want to. You don't find many photographers with relevant experience in the fashion industry out there who know how to capture your best version even without you knowing which version it is. I always know.

Request your photo shoot with me on the services page.

🇬🇧 Boudoir and nude photo shoots

Boudoir or nude photography shoots are among my custom photography services. And I really like them for two different reasons, which I discuss below.

One reason I like these shoots is when sensuality exists and is celebrated, which is generally the purpose of boudoir shoots. I like this because until I was 22 I had a lot of insecurities about my appearance, so today I like to celebrate the beauty and sensuality of clients as much as I like to celebrate my beauty and sensuality.

I also like nude and boudoir shoots because they are ways of naturalising nudity, removing the sexualization that is commonly associated with nudity in some places, including Brazil. They can be, if the client wants, images where sensuality is subtle or non-existent. It's like seeing femininity in a woman simply because she's a woman and seeing masculinity in a man simply because he's a man. Sensuality exists on its own, and it can also be placed in the background. Removing the sexualised image of a naked body is the strongest way to celebrate self-love, healthy self-esteem, and feeling good about who you are. I think this is sensational!

Boudoir shoots, in this sense, seem perfect for people who still don't feel perfectly comfortable with their appearance, because there are more scene and clothing elements that can be used to disguise points of insecurity or draw attention to points of greater beauty. But in nude images there are also scene features and angles that can be used to enhance the most beautiful aspects of each client or model.

To have photos taken by me, request your photo shoot on the services page. To contribute to the development of my original photography portfolio, you can also make your donation on my Ko-Fi profile.
